The Money is in The List!

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

In business having a database of clients that you’ve built a good relationship with is one of the most valuable assets any business can have. As a lot of online marketers say, “The money is in the list!”

If you want proof of the value that’s in a database, I’m sure you can remember just a few years back when Google purchased Youtube for $1.6 Billion, and Youtube hadn’t made a profit at that stage.

Building your database is an ongoing task, remember it’s all about building the relationship and staying in contact with your prospects so that you are their when they are ready to buy. A good point to keep in mind when building your database is that each time you get a new addition to your database it is future profits, now I’m not saying that you will sell to everyone that enters your database, how ever you will obviously sell to a percentage of your database. So if you’re struggling to see the value in focusing on your database, just think of it as future revenue.

There are many different strategies you can use to build your database and let’s start with some traditional offline business examples;
The most popular for a traditional bricks and mortar business is to run an in-store competition where people enter their details into the draw to win a prize that can be something you’ve packaged up in house or you may even offer a holiday to more attention. This allows you to capture peoples details so you can stay in contact with them and send out special offers to generate more business.

Here’s an example from a café business I worked with; (more…)

What You Focus On Is What You Get!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It’s all in your head.

Every person on the planet has a part of their brain that acts as a centre of arousal and motivation.

This powerful part of your brain is called your reticular activating system (RAS) and it works by filtering the barrage of information supplied by all your senses and passing on only what is believed to be the important stuff.

The great news for you and all of us is that it can be trained…

In just the same way that you can hear your name spoken in a crowded, noisy room, you can train your RAS to be receptive to whatever you choose. Good or bad, failure or success. (more…)

STOP Trying To Do It All Yourself!!

Doing Everything Yourself…

An ongoing challenge I see with business owners and entrepreneurs is that their businesses have stopped growing because they are not making enough time to work ON it!

Too many fall into this deadly trap trying to do too much themselves and finished up being so busy running their business that they’re not working ON their business. Essentially working flat out and getting nowhere!!

Are You Spending All Your Time on the Trivial Stuff?

Let’s face it, you generally wear a lot of hats when you own your own business, however you don’t have to wear them all yourself. Most business owners who are struggling to keep their head above water have fallen into the doing everything themselves trap, event he tasks that they know they’re not good at… Sounds crazy doesn’t it?

Those who continue in this doom loop end up like a person stuck out in the middle of the ocean continually treading water until they eventually get tired, sink and drown.

Pretty soon the passion they had when they started their business rapidly disappears and their desire drowns in a flood of behind-the-scenes work. Eventually they wake up one morning feeling burnt out with a negative mindset and stuck in a massive rut.

I am speaking from experience here, as I fell into the ‘do it all myself’ trap myself and it was not a pleasant place to be ‘stuck’ in at all. And you know I hear quite often in society you are told that you must work hard… Why? Is it because everyone else is stuck in a doom loop?

I certainly learned the hard way that it’s not necessarily about working hard, but more about working SMART! In fact if you find yourself working hard you’re likely to be doing something wrong. After all we are all on this planet for only a limited time, so doesn’t it make sense to enjoy our time here. It all starts with working smarter and here’s where it begins…

Thank god I found out about virtual assistants (VA’s). A virtual assistant is a free lancer who takes care of all that “busy work” for you. And because virtual assistants work independently themselves, they work on demand when you need them and save you the costs of hiring someone full-time.

Thanks to technology your virtual assistant can live down the road from you or on the other side of the planet… It’s up to you. (For more on outsourcing, grab yourself a copy of my Ultimate Outsourcing Manuscript at www.TheBusinessCommandos.com )

Moving forward, before you dive in to any task in your business STOP, and ask yourself “Is this the best possible use of my time?” If not outsource it to your virtual assistant.

For the next week, keep a journal of all your activities and sit down and review it at the end of the week. Identify which activities you really need to do and which you can delegate.

Your virtual assistant will both save you and make you a fortune as your valuable time gets freed up to work on the higher value tasks like marketing, innovating and growing your business.

You will get back to thinking big and quickly regain your creative energy you had when you first started your business in next to no time at all.

Take massive action now and get your life back!

Yours in success,

Aaron Parsons.

Business In The Biscuit Tin - Part 1

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Too many people start running a business and end up with the business running them as most businesses are operated via the business in a biscuit tin model. This is where the owner is just so busy just doing it, doing it and doing it with their head down and bum up with the belief that as long as they are busy they must be doing Ok, right….WRONG!

For the vast majority of businesses today that are still operating via this prehistoric business mentality, their businesses are treading water at best, but mostly dying a slow and unprofitable death.

This is because these type of business owners are busy working on the tactics side of the business. Inside the business biscuit tin, just going around and around and around, working on the lower value tasks that make minimal impact on the business that juniors could do, so the only way for them to improve the businesses profitability is to work faster. An extremely slow and ineffective strategy.

On the flip side Entrepreneurs step outside the biscuit tin and go to work on the strategy side of the business focusing on the higher value tasks that make the big difference. They identify the most profitable areas of their business and ensure they spend the majority of their time working on these areas to accelerate business profits.

The smartest way to Fast-Track your business success or anything for that matter is to follow a proven recipe, as the mistakes have already been made. So it makes good sense to follow a proven system or learn from someone with proven results.

It’s not a good idea to reinvent the wheel and be a pioneer. Remember what happened to the pioneers, they came home full of arrows.
